Former C19th school house. The welsh slate roof had been subject to multiple poor attempts at repair. Many areas of slates had been nailed incorrectly causing water ingress and many of the slates had been glued down with silicone. Strangely the underside of the slates had been glued together with foam blocks in an attempt to stop them slipping. The central lead valley had come to the end if its useful life as had the pitched valleys and chimney back gutter.
Work carried out
The entirety of the roof was stripped back in stages and all sound slates retained for reuse. Timber repairs were carried out to the roof structure where necessary and it was then felted with breathable roofing membrane and battened before re slating with the original slates. All pitched lead valleys were renewed. Reclaimed welsh slate was sourced to replace any defective slates removed ensuring a good match for the original and new Spanish slates were installed in the central valley.
The central lead valley was dismantled and the boarding renewed before installing a new code 6 lead gutter. Chimney flashings and back gutter were also renewed. All leadworks conform to LSA guidelines.
All exterior joinery/fascias and bargeboards were repaired and decorated. Rainwater goods were renewed with cast iron effect. Lime pointing works were carried out to gables.
